Morning Walk at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesEnjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. Winter Solstice Celebration

Join us around the campfire as we celebrate the first day of winter! During this celebration, you will learn what a winter solstice is, where the wildlife goes this time of year, and about the many cultural celebrations centered around the darkest day of the year. We will be lighting our bonfire, burning our intentions for the new year, and meditating through our solstice spiral. Winter Tree ID: Buds, Bark, and Branches
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesLearn how to ID native tree species in winter by looking at the 3 "B's" - buds, bark, and branches! Join a Lorrimer Sanctuary naturalist for a brief hike as we talk about the native tree species that provide food and shelter for wildlife, as well as how to ID them after their leaves have fallen. We will focus on learning to identify the 3 “B’s” – Buds, Bark, and Branches! Bundle up! This class will be held entirely outdoors. Maple Sugaring

Tap a tree, collect sap, and taste test the syrup! Join a NJ Audubon naturalist for a fun look into the process behind making maple syrup! Learn how to identify a sugar maple tree, find out how maple sap (and eventually syrup) was discovered, collect sap, and practice tapping a tree yourself!
