Join Captain Bob and the crew of The Osprey for close-up looks at secretive rails, nesting Ospreys, migrant shorebirds, terns, gulls, herons and more. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. A perennial favorite for many breeding warblers and other songbirds in a beautiful setting during the height of the nesting season. Great roadside birding along the scenic upper Delaware River, with a wide variety of breeding songbirds, including Black-billed Cuckoo, Alder Flycatcher, Louisiana Waterthrush, Worm-eating, Hooded, & Cerulean Warblers. The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Our Naturalists will provide scopes for participants, but bringing your own scope is encouraged. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $10 General Admission Interested in becoming a member? Following the footprint of Lorrimer Sanctuary's past "Sinister Garden", we'll be observing and learning to recognize some of NJ's poisonous plants. From common garden weeds to well-known ornamental plants to native forest plants, this walk features something for everyone! Head out on a guided tour through our trails, where you'll encounter a variety of fascinating poisonous plants that have intrigued humans for thousands of years. Our knowledgeable staff will share anecdotes and cautionary tales about these cool (and occasionally sinister!) plants. Discover the secrets behind well-known plants like Foxglove, Bleeding Heart, and Nightshade as well as their less well-known peers! Learn about their toxic properties, historical uses, the myths and legends surrounding them, and their effects on local wildlife. This event is perfect for nature enthusiasts of all ages! This event is officially SOLD OUT Join us for a reTURN the Favor walk organized by New Jersey Audubon to help rescue stranded horseshoe crabs and learn more about them along the way. This event is great for all ages. Be sure to wear shoes that can get wet, and be prepared for the conditions, including bug spray and sun protection. Join Us for Nature Center Camp Prep Day! Hey there! We're looking for awesome volunteers to help get the Nature Center ready for camp season. It's an in-person event packed with fun tasks like organizing craft supplies, cleaning, gardening, and putting together a storage rack! Low Difficulty: Gardening in the front of our building and weeding our native plant garden, sorting supplies and setting up indoor spaces, cleaning, sweeping, and wiping down surfaces, hanging artwork High difficulty: heavy lifting and assembly for storage racks. The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Join members of the NJ Audubon stewardship team to tour and learn about Hudson Farm's 30-acre wetland and floodplain restoration project, which improved water quality and provides critical wildlife habitat in support of the American black duck. Previously a degraded wetland, the site now provides crucial foraging and nesting habitat for migratory waterfowl and other birds. We will discuss the process and steps of this restoration and view birds, plants and other wildlife that now use this valuable habitat. The walking route is about 1 mile over uneven, but flat, terrain. Rain date will be June 20th at 6pm; registrants will be notified via email if the program is being moved to the rain date. Beginning with grounding breathwork and meditation, you’ll then embark on a silent, slow-paced hike to the river, noticing sights, sounds, and sensations along the trail. Using the ACT-based “Leaves on a Stream” metaphor (ACT-Acceptance Commitment Therapy), each participant will collect a fallen leaf to symbolically release worries, self-doubt, or recurring thoughts into the flowing water. Journaling prompts and optional group conversation will help integrate the experience and explore new ways of relating to thoughts and stress. The walk concludes with a mindful return to the trailhead, giving you space to carry the calm and clarity back into daily life. Reconnect, reflect, and let go — your calm awaits by the river. WHAT TO BRING: Water, appropriate footwear, and an optional blanket or mat. Journals and pens will be provided. NOTE: We move at the pace of the slowest hiker, so the walk’s end time may vary slightly. The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Make your own nature-based compositions and let the sun do the printing for you! The program will begin with a short walk on the trails at Lorrimer Sanctuary followed by a printing demonstration. Our center will be closed today in observance of the July 4th Independence Day holiday. We will reopen for our regular hours on Sunday July 5.
With its diversity of habitat – beach, dunes, ponds, forest, and marsh – Cape May Point is the perfect spot for great year-round birding.
