Fall Migrants at the Rea Farm
Rea Farm - The Beanery Bayshore Rd, West Cape MayJoin CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Rea Farm "Beanery" property! NJ Audubon has leased the birding privileges on this working farm where the field edges regularly attract warblers, sparrows, and other fall migrants. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. NJ Audubon: Rutgers University Ecological Preserve Birder’s Walk
Led by Jeremy Cohen, Associate Naturalist Join us at the Rutgers Ecological Preserve and Natural Teaching Area for a fall bird walk. The preserve is 316 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. Migration is the time of the highest bird diversity, and we expect to see or hear 30 – 40 or more bird species. Expect to walk about 1.5 miles on flat trails, but please wear shoes that can handle some light mud. Free parking is available by required special permit; parking permit link provided in program registration confirmation email. Please bring your own binoculars, and spotting scope if desired. Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR
Early fall birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Each week is likely to be different as we watch the ebb and flow of fall migration. Wear long pants and a lightweight long-sleeved shirt. Insect repellant is advised. Restrooms on site. Bring lunch. Family Crafts: Fall Series
Bring the whole family for an hour of nature-based crafting! On the second Saturday of every month, we will guide you through a nature-inspired craft! The whole family is invited to get in on the fun. Each ticket includes crafting supplies for one child. Crafts are best suited for children 6 years of age and older. Foraged Woodland Tea Party
An enchanting introduction to wild herbal teas! Step into the woods as a forager, not just a hiker. In this hands-on program guests will explore the forest floor and trail edges and learn to spot and safely identify wild plants that have been brewed into teas for generations — things like pine needles, wild mint, clover, etc., depending on the season and location. We'll then head back into the education center for some taste-testing. What to expect: A guided walk to search for edible, tea-worthy plants Simple, memorable rules for foraging safely (only pick what you can positively identify; leave enough for the forest and other foragers) A tasting session — sipping the tea you helped find, with time to talk about flavor, smell, and which plants tasted best Take-home tips and recipes for continuing to forage safely and brew your own teas. Small snacks will be shared, but guests are welcome to bring their favorite snack to pair with their teas. Cape May Hawkwatch Experience, with ASL Interpreter
Are you looking to experience hawk watching for the first time? Or to learn more raptor ID tips? Join CMBO staff on the Cape May Hawkwatch for an afternoon of testing your birding skills and enjoying the spectacle of migration. As a part of this event, we will have benches for sitting, binoculars and spotting scopes for viewing, and educational materials to assist with bird identification. No matter your level of birding experience, you are welcome to join us in the fun! An ASL interpreter will be provided for this event. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance.
