Join Captain Bob and the crew of The Osprey for close-up looks at secretive rails, nesting Ospreys, migrant shorebirds, terns, gulls, herons and more. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. Join CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around The Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows Preserve property! Expect wading birds, gulls, beach-nesters, and migrating shorebirds. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Join Cape May Bird Observatory naturalists on a trolley tour to local “natural habitats” (with exits at two spots), learning about the beauty, diversity, abundance (millions of birds, butterflies, and dragonflies pass through each year), geography, and extensive history of this amazing spectacle. New Jersey Audubon Photography Instructors’ Summer Exhibition
The New Jersey Audubon Photography Instructors’ Summer Exhibition will be held June through August 2022. The works of six photographers will be on exhibit. All artwork is for sale, with a portion of sales going to support New Jersey Audubon. The show will remain on exhibit at the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery through August. The Art Gallery is open Fridays 9:30 – 4:30, Saturdays 9:30 – 4:30 and Sundays 12 noon – 5pm. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Insects… which do you like best? Each day the focus is on a different group of animals that live at the Plainsboro Preserve. Children will explore their habitats to learn how animals are specially adapted for surviving in our wilds. This fun-filled week will have children outside, exploring the Plainsboro Preserve in search of critters large and small. Fungi have been used for thousands of years by humans, not only as food but as medicine, fire-starters, insect repellants, decoration, for religious ceremonies and more. Fungi are very important to forests. Not only are they decomposers and recyclers in the forest ecosystem, but they also connect to tree roots – a mutualistic symbiosis that allows trees to communicate with each other. Do your kids love to explore? Register today to have your kids join NJ Audubon for some serious outdoor fun as we explore the Plainsboro Preserve. Days will vary from a visit to Devil's Brook in search of macro-invertebrates to a visit in the field as we check the milkweed for monarch caterpillars. Some days may be focused on survival skills as participants build their own shelters to see if they have what it takes to survive on their own. A Starry Night with the Moths
Join NJ Audubon in celebrating National Moth Week! If you thought moths were just small, drab, and annoying insects, you'll be surprised by what you learn about these fascinating nocturnal creatures. We will have a light station set up on the back deck where we expect to see dozens of species, big and small. A short walk through the woods will take us to a series of stations where we will try to lure in moths with a mixture of over-ripe fruit. We will also have a star gazing station where our volunteer astronomers will have a telescope set up for your viewing pleasure. This event is scheduled to run until 10:30 pm, but moth numbers and diversity increase as the night goes on, so we'll stay longer if the moths keep coming. Summer birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Expect shorebirds, wading birds, terns, marsh birds, and raptors. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Summer birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Expect shorebirds, wading birds, terns, marsh birds, and raptors. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Each week is likely to be different as we watch the ebb and flow of summer migration. Led by Scott Barnes, Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, Mike Mandracchia, Jason Denesevich and/or Chris Daly. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor.
